Concerning Guns, Hammers and Violence BY HERSCHEL SMITH

Concerning Guns, Hammers and Violence

BY HERSCHEL SMITH
2 weeks, 5 days ago
H. Lee Sarokin, writing at Huffington Post, waxes emotional over the effects of gun violence in America, using the example of Trayvon Martin as the springboard.  Rather, he wants you to wax emotional.  The comments range from the delusional (e.g., more regulation would mean less gun violence), to the badly mistaken (people hunt with fully automatic weapons – can you imagine such a thing?).  Sarokin himself mixes in some bad statistics, or allusion to things that statistics in fact do not prove, but the beginning paragraph is the best part of the commentary.
When innocent people are gunned down in schools or offices or when someone like George Zimmerman shoots and kills Trayvon Martin, how do members of the NRA and gun-advocates truly feel? I really want to understand. I think I understand the desire to have a gun for self-defense or sport. But when a gun owner sees statistics such as these, how do they react?
“Statistics such as these” made me think of this sad and recent case near Orlando.
A tip to Crimeline has led to the arrests of two men in a brutal beating that occurred a week ago in the Midway community east of Sanford.
Julius Ricardo Bender, 18, and Yahaziel Isaac Israel, 19, face charges of attempted first-degree murder, burglary with assault or battery and armed burglary.
The victim, a 50-year-old Winter Springs man whose name has not been released, is on life-support at Orlando Regional Medical Center.
Deputies were called to the area of Lincoln Street and Beardall Avenue about 6:30 p.m. March 26 to investigate a report of a man being beaten, Seminole County Sheriff’s spokeswoman Heather Smith said.
They found the victim in the woods on the north side of Lincoln Street.
According to arrest affidavits:
A witness told deputies he heard someone screaming for help and saw two men pull the victim from his vehicle. He said he watched as one man held the victim and the other beat him in the head with a hammer.
After they dragged the victim into the woods, the men drove away in his sport utility vehicle, which was later found abandoned about a half-mile away on Garbo Jack Lane.
Beaten into a coma with a hammer.  In fact, this isn’t as uncommon as one might think.  In March of 2012, Jun Hyuk Chang beat his father to death with a hammer in or near LA.  In July of 2011, Jean Simon beat his stepdaughter to death with a hammer in NYC.  In July of 2011, Tyler Hadley beat both of his parents to death with a hammer in Port St. Lucie and then threw a party with the bodies of his parents still lying on the floor.  In 2008, Clayton Jerrod Ellington killed his wife and two twin boys with a hammer in DeKalb County.  In November of 2011, Craig Stephen Frentzel was found beaten to death with a hammer in St. Louis.  In September of 2011, Benjamin Singleton was beaten beaten to death with a hammer in Myrtle Beach, S.C.  Then there was poor little Zander Martino who perished after being beaten with a hammer in Las Vegas.  From the very young to the old, Jessie James Durham beat his great-grandmother, 78-year-old Elizabeth Armismier, to death with a hammer in Campbellsville in February of 2012. Violence is even perpetrated against dogs and cats with hammers.
In order to obtain my concealed handgun permit, I had to give the Sheriff of Mecklenburg County permission to access all of my medical records.  Any admisions to any hospital for substance abuse or mental health issues would have been reason to have denied my permit.  I also had to have a background check and have many other records examined for the sake of public safety.
Given the easy availability of hammers – I can go to Home Depot, Lowes, or even Walmart and purchase a hammer with no background check whatsoever – I am calling for the increased regulation of carpentry tools.  Given the outrage of hammers and the fact that anyone can purchase them just about anywhere, what reasonable person could oppose such a thing?  And finally, studying these cases of beatings with hammers actually made me sick to my stomach.  I want to know how everyone feels about all of these senseless acts of violence perpetrated with the weapon to which we commonly refer as hammer?  How does it make you truly feel?

Great blog post on Containerization...

"A BBC4 programme - 'the box that changed Britain' - brings to life another side of this story. (Great Wired article on this subject here.) Containerisation has profoundly transformed trade and production. The container bought "value, choice and luxury beyond our wildest dreams," says narrator Roger McGough. A look around most rooms in the UK confirms that - the range of goods in eyeshot at any one time is staggering. Jane Jacobs talks a great deal about the symbiotic processes that lie at the root of city development. Successful cities are ecosystems of firms, often hiving off new exports 'accidentally' discovered along the way. For the past 40 years, containers have opened the door to a just-in-time world - production is still diverse, but it's happening in many different countries. Transport is now 1% of overall costs; I think it was 30% before containerisation for overseas goods, though I haven't traced that figure yet, and it'd be useful to see how it breaks down. Production networks fight over the whole planet for their edge. As the boss of EMS notes, he's fully aware of his lowly position in that vast system. I'm reminded of Manuel Castells... damn, can't find the quote. Paraphrase: we live in world where production nodes can be switched on or off as financial logic dictates. EMS holds its place as long as nothing better comes along.

The operations research literature is full of articles modelling container optimization - a job made much easier because container ports mirror their model doppelgangers so much more precisely than the messiness of the old human dockworker system ever could. Indeed, at automated container terminals, the job of transferring model optimisations to port throughput could be as easy as an upload.
The result of all this: often it's cheaper to ship across the Atlantic than it is between cities.
I've written before about the condescension poured on anyone with the temerity to have moral qualms about the global economy. Krugman's line is still best: 'the lofty moral tone of the opponents of globalization is possible only because they have chosen not to think their position through.' This is bullshit, I realise. Here's some thoughts on why."

IC vs Discrete from wiki

"There are two main advantages of ICs over discrete circuits: cost and performance. Cost is low because the chips, with all their components, are printed as a unit by photolithography rather than being constructed one transistor at a time. Furthermore, much less material is used to construct a packaged IC die than to construct a discrete circuit. Performance is high because the components switch quickly and consume little power (compared to their discrete counterparts) as a result of the small size and close proximity of the components. As of 2006, typical chip areas range from a few square millimeters to around 350 mm2, with up to 1 million transistors per mm2."

GPS placed on vehicles during traffic stops.

"Jensen has testified that the battery-powered devices, which agents could turn on and off remotely, were used to follow vehicles into remote areas or if agents lost vehicles in traffic.
In one instance, agents placed a GPS tracker on one of Amaya's vehicles during a traffic stop in Kansas after obtaining information that he was making a trip to Texas. In another, agents used a GPS device to track a vehicle that was sent with suspected drug money on a car carrier from Iowa to California, changing its batteries after a stop in Nebraska where they seized $29,000.
Jensen has testified the tracking helped confirm a tip that Amaya went to a bank to transfer money to a California marijuana supplier. When on, the devices updated their location every 15 seconds, which was transmitted to a website where agents could track movements."

Naturally, there will be no serious repercussions from this corrupt system. Who will watch the watchers? When they are all corrupt, there is no incentive to police them to even hold fast to their own stated rules and procedures. Corruption, while deplorable, at least points at the cracks in the foundations of this decaying imperial power. Corruption in the courts will lead to corruption of the security forces, and eventually they will be unable to take concerted action against a domestic insurgency and...if we are lucky, popular revolution against the bankers and the FEDGOV.

Capitalism or Socialism?

The deteriorating conditions of the US economy has sped past the point of recovery, especially given the system of control (political) in which this decay acts out. The entitlement system is going to implode the economic and social order within our lifetime, but with current conditions the prevailing downturn is only accelerating these trends so that we have a truncated timeline with which to anticipate the collapse.

That said, it is an indisputable fact that Obama will be the next president, and this state of affairs has nothing to do with voting or the popular will of the electorate for that matter. It is simply a statement of the ruling elites, the bankers who see in Obama a conciliatory voice and also a willing accomplice in their transfer of wealth out of the country. Furthermore, the Republicans do not want to inherit the next four years, as they perceive the hardship and mismanagement of the US economy blame as falling on the party who controls the executive branch.

The question of socialism or capitalism is moot at this point. We have entered a thoroughly post-modern era. Capital no longer can be restrained by even the laws of thermodynamics, and so we have 4th quarter of 08 among other anomalies and should expect many more. We no longer have the luxury of ideological or philosophical debates about which system we prefer. Instead we should be preparing for the inevitable revolution to come, and the social anarchy that will consume the country when the central government collapses. It remains to be seen what kind of governing apparatus will replace the current regime.

What remains for Americans who are wise and possessed of foresight is to arm themselves with as much knowledge and material as will allow them to forge new alliances and political foundations for the re-birth of the nation or the balkenization of the post-collapse order.

Swedish study says pathalates tied to diabetes in older population.

Medical News:%20Common Chemical Tied to Diabetes in Seniors - in Endocrinology, Diabetes from MedPage Today

" Serum levels of phthalate metabolites are linked with the development of type 2 diabetes in the elderly, Swedish researchers found.

"Phthalates are found in numerous household products, such as food packaging, furniture, and toys, and in medical devices, such as tubing and intravenous bags," researchers P. Monica Lind, PhD, from Uppsala University, and colleagues noted.

After adjustment for sex, diabetes was significantly associated with the presence of monoethyl phthalate (MEP), with an odds ratio of 1.30 (95% CI 1 to 1.69, P=0.049) as well as with detectable monoisobutyl phthalate (MiBP), with an odds ratio of 1.25 (95% CI 1.07 to 1.46, P=0.006), they reported in the June issue of Diabetes Care..

After further adjustment for cholesterol, triglycerides, body mass index, smoking, exercise, and education, MiBP remained significantly related to diabetes (OR 1.30, 95% CI 1.10 to 1.55, P=0.0025), Lind and colleagues they found."

Regnat Populus 2012

http://www.regnatpopulus2012.com/

Regnat populus is the official motto of the State of Arkansas. As average Arkansans, we decided to use this phrase as the foundation for our attempt to bring the will of common citizens to bear on our state electoral processes.
This website will serve as a record of our organizational efforts. Among the benefits of living in the 21st century is the widespread availability of low-cost communication streams, such as this blog/website, Facebook, Twitter, email, online forums, and other forms of social media. We want to “go viral” with this effort to prove that “We, the People” still have a voice and that voice is not defined by how much money we have to spend on candidates and elected officials.
We are not anti-business. To hold such beliefs would be ridiculous as most, if not all, of us work or have worked for a “corporation.” However, we do not agree with the United States Supreme Court’s increasingly infamous “Citizens United v. Federal Elections Committee” decision which further entrenched the concept that corporations are people and declared that money is speech. We have come to recognize that the level of corporate influence on our government, especially at the state and federal levels, has become unbearable, threatening to drown out common citizens’ voices completely. We see our systems strain under the weight of lobbyist-induced deregulation, cuts to programs that help common people, corporate welfare and subsidies, and outright corruption and graft. We seek to change that structure and redistribute the weight so that legislation, regulations, spending and treaties enhance the ability of average citizens to achieve the American ideals of Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness, regardless of socio-economic status.
Many of us had long held beliefs that the influence of big money on our elections needed to be reigned in, but were unsure of how to go about creating the change we desired. The shifting of the national dialogue from “How do we slash government services to reduce the deficit?” to “How do we prevent Wall Street from creating another crash like 2008?” and “How do we address income inequality?,” prompted by Occupy Wall Street and other protest movements, forged our will and gave us the momentum to launch this ballot question committee. We are convinced that the time for this type of citizen-led effort is now.
The very foundation of a democratic system that should represent its citizens is at stake. We can no longer leave the integrity of the electoral process to “the experts” who have brought us to the brink of financial meltdown and have endangered the very stability of our nation. It is time for citizens to stand up and say, ”No, this corrupt system shall not stand.” It is time to leave the comfort of our living rooms and take action.
Will you help us? The greatest need to enact this reform costs nothing. It is your time. Please see the “Get Involved!” tab and let us know how you can help! We can also be contacted by sending an email to email@regnatpopulus2012.com, by “liking” our Facebook page, or by following us on Twitter at @RegnatPopulusAR.

Trayvon Martin Shooting Unlikely To Change Gun Debate, Lawmakers Concede: ""This package of common-sense gun safety bills would sail through Congress if it wasn’t for the special interest gun lobby," he said in a statement at the time. Spoken like an elitist NWO scum that Lautenberg "Duel citizen and Zionist traitor to America" is. Gun saftey? Nonsense! Gun safety from the mouth's of fascists is code for confiscation and victimization of the public (read: proles, slaves, middle and lower class wage slaves, lumpen, etc) at the hands of the criminal element created, trained, and sustained by the failed fascist racist gulag prison industrial complex. Would-be gun confiscatory regimes established by Lautenberg fascist pig in the pay of his master Bloomberg, the latter a high priest of the New World Order Neo-Liberal enslavement campaign. Lautenterd has no concern for American families who would only become endangered if such laws were passed. The absurdity that the America citizenry even tolerates this gerontocracy of traitors! America awake and smash the fascists!

Lautenberg is the lowest worm of the US political system (itself a decaying corpse of the 1950s era behaviorism). He feeds on tragedy, he is the corpse surfer par excellence. He rides the wave of dead bodies to a media conference where he injects fascist, slavish state-worship and demagoguery worthy of an orator of the Third Reich or Soviet.

“There are some surprising facts people should know,” McCarthy said in a statement to HuffPost last week. “I and many others who support reasonable restrictions on guns are not trying to take away anyone’s rights. We want to keep the most dangerous weapons out of the hands of the most dangerous people.”

Keep the most dangerous weapons out of the most dangerous hands? The most dangerous weapon is the one being used at any given time to injure or kill you. And it can take the form of a knife, a gun, a car, a piece of rope, anything. In this context she implies that we know who the most dangerous people are, but how can we *ever* know who the most dangerous people are unless we enact a fascist, Orwellian society of thought-crime and thought-policing that a priori disables the rights of the citizenry?

And going still further, the most dangerous people are the bankers at Goldman Sachs and other large "financial" firms who have done more damage to this country than a thousand 9-11 "terror" attacks and a million bin ladens. Yet no one is calling on a collective crusade and deficit spending to drop JDAM bombs on the houses of bankers, or those who are making bankers, the latter of which are increasingly a kind of (financial) terrorist, and the robo-signed loan as a kind of financial IED.

McCarthy does the other historical McCarthy justice by initiating her own modern era witch-hunt against civilian gun ownership and firearm rights. In the same breath she says that she wants not to destroy rights of the citizenry but also she wants to destroy the rights of the citizenry through. Who is diluted enough to believe in their cause and not see through the blatant lies of these NWO shills and traitor-scum?

This huffpo gungrabber article is replete with the Loughnerized canards of "15 bullets in 31 seconds" jingoism. Well worth reading if you want a good laugh at a failed attempt to troll the bedrock decency of right leaning Americans.

Chinese boy 'sells kidney to buy iPad'

A Chinese boy is suffering from kidney failure after he sold his organ to buy an iPad and iPhone, state media reported on Friday.

Mophie Juice Pack Powerstation
The teenager is believed to have been paid £2,200 for his kidney. He is said to have used to the money for an iPad.
The 17-year-old boy, identified only by his surname Wang, was approached in an online chatroom and paid 22,000 yuan (£2,200) for his kidney to be used in an illegal transplant operation, the Xinhua News Agency said.
The teen now suffers from renal deficiency and his health is deteriorating, according to prosecutors in Chenzhou city, Hunan province.
Five people from southern China have been charged with intentional injury and illegal organ trading, including the surgeon who removed the boy’s kidney in April 2011.
According to the Xinhua, one of the accused was paid 220,000 yuan (£22,000) to arrange the transplant. He paid the boy 22,000 yuan (£2,200) and shared the remaining profit with the surgeon, the three other defendants and other medical staff.
The media reports gave no indication of who paid for and received the kidney.
The boy is from Anhui, one of China’s poorest provinces where people frequently leave to find better jobs.
The boy’s mother discovered that her son had sold his kidney when she enquired about his new iPad and iPhone.
Apple products are extremely popular in China, but are priced too high for many Chinese. In China iPhones start at 3,988 yuan (£400), and iPads begin at 2,988 yuan (£300).
Black market organ trading is becoming more rampant as the disparity between the number of kidneys available and the number of Chinese needing transplants grows.
Health ministry statistics show that about 1.5 million people in China need transplants, but only around 10,000 transplants are performed annually.
Executed prisoners remain the main source of organs used in transplant operations, Vice Health Minister Huang Jiefu was quoted by state media as saying last month. He added that this was because few Chinese people voluntarily donate their organs for operations.
As a result, only a fraction of the Chinese people in need of transplants are able to get them, which leads to “transplant tourism” where patients travel overseas for such operations. China banned the trading of human organs in 2007, Xinhua said.

Marcus Aurelius: US Military – To Coup or Not to Coup?

Categories: Uncategorized
Marcus Aurelius
Phi Beta Iota:  This is a long and interesting presentation of two points of view.  In short, the US political system, the upper reaches of the US government, and the US military “clerk-leaders” are an incestuous self-sustaining circle of corruption.  We do not have an “Obama” problem.  We have an Israel / Goldman Sachs / Fed / Wall Street / two-party political tyranny problem.  If Mitt Romney is elected, that just puts the drug cartel side of Wall Street in charge, instead of the Israeli rope a dope side of Wall Street.  There is nothing honorable or useful about the two-party political system in the USA.  That we should even be having this discussion of coups etcetera is a sign of how far from a Republic we have fallen.
The non-violent alternative has been clearly presented at We the People Electoral Reform Coalition (and is still viable), but not a single presidential candidate now running has the integrity to see the logic of supporting the Constitution instead of running their own one-man show.  We project that Obama will win again with the lowest voter turn-out in history (i.e. the Independents will not vote for Romney, or vote), and that the US economy will implode in 2013 with major social disruption in 2014.
Marcus Aurelius Sends:
BOTTOM LINE UP FRONT: I assess that the current crop of key military leaders will never revolt in any way against the President, the Commander in Chief. I see it as beyond the realm of the possible.
Here’s why:
FIRST, you can take it to the bank that every key three or four star leader appointed since POTUS was inaugurated in 2009 has already pledged personal obedience to him. Count on it as being a part of the screening process for these “Presidentially Appointed, Senate Confirmed” (PAS) positions.
All O-9 and O-10 (Lieutenant General/Vice Admiral and General/Admiral) positions are PAS. Count on it being done very slickly, with the candidate being asked to confirm something like that, if nominated by the President and confirmed by the Senate, he/she will be and perform as a full member of “the President’s team.”
SECOND, if the firing of GEN McChrystal and the passover of GEN Petraeus for Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff didn’t trigger a coup, nothing is likely to.
THIRD, if you observe what the Chairman, the Service Chiefs, and other key leaders are saying in public and writing, it’s pretty clear that they’ve pledged their full support to DoD as the principal bill payer for Federal deficit reduction, even though that imposes military and strategic risks on the Nation.
FOURTH, uniformed military leaders are moving expeditiously to execute POTUS’ will in such strategically questionable areas as withdrawal from Afghanistan. They are doing what their training and centuries of developed ethos have conditioned them to do: subordinating themselves to civilian masters.
FIFTH, at least for the Army, our 237-year old Service culture is such that we never protest anything. Soldiers, enlisted and officer, are the ultimate obedient servants. GA MacArthur was a clear aberration and everyone knows his efforts didn’t work out well for him personally or professionally. We Soldiers lead all other Services in “yes sir, yes sir, three bags full”. No matter how much a President or a Congress abuses American citizens, American Soldiers, or the Army as an institution, the Army will quietly suck it up and come back for more. Check out Carl Builder’s Masks of War if you want to explore this dimension further.
So, to recap: I dispute Mr. Perry’s assessments and assertions and counter-assert that POTUS is absolutely safe from a hard or soft coup attempt by any element of the Armed Forces of the United States.
Below the line: the original article quickly removed from the original site.

Full Text Of Newsmax Column Suggesting Military Coup Against Obama

Here is the full text of John L. Perry’s column on Newsmax which suggests that a military coup to “resolve the Obama problem” is becoming more possible and is not “unrealistic.” Perry also writes that a coup, while not “ideal,” may be preferable to “Obama’s radical ideal” — and would “restore and defend the Constitution.” Newsmax has since removed the column from its website.
Obama Risks a Domestic Military Intervention
By: John L. Perry
There is a remote, although gaining, possibility America’s military will intervene as a last resort to resolve the “Obama problem.” Don’t dismiss it as unrealistic.
America isn’t the Third World. If a military coup does occur here it will be civilized. That it has never happened doesn’t mean it wont. Describing what may be afoot is not to advocate it. So, view the following through military eyes:
# Officers swear to “support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic.” Unlike enlisted personnel, they do not swear to “obey the orders of the president of the United States.”
# Top military officers can see the Constitution they are sworn to defend being trampled as American institutions and enterprises are nationalized.
# They can see that Americans are increasingly alarmed that this nation, under President Barack Obama, may not even be recognizable as America by the 2012 election, in which he will surely seek continuation in office.
# They can see that the economy — ravaged by deficits, taxes, unemployment, and impending inflation — is financially reliant on foreign lender governments.
# They can see this president waging undeclared war on the intelligence community, without whose rigorous and independent functions the armed services are rendered blind in an ever-more hostile world overseas and at home.
# They can see the dismantling of defenses against missiles targeted at this nation by avowed enemies, even as America’s troop strength is allowed to sag.
# They can see the horror of major warfare erupting simultaneously in two, and possibly three, far-flung theaters before America can react in time.
# They can see the nation’s safety and their own military establishments and honor placed in jeopardy as never before.
So, if you are one of those observant military professionals, what do you do?
Wait until this president bungles into losing the war in Afghanistan, and Pakistan’s arsenal of nuclear bombs falls into the hands of militant Islam?
Wait until Israel is forced to launch air strikes on Iran’s nuclear-bomb plants, and the Middle East explodes, destabilizing or subjugating the Free World?
What happens if the generals Obama sent to win the Afghan war are told by this president (who now says, “I’m not interested in victory”) that they will be denied troops they must have to win? Do they follow orders they cannot carry out, consistent with their oath of duty? Do they resign en masse?
Or do they soldier on, hoping the 2010 congressional elections will reverse the situation? Do they dare gamble the national survival on such political whims?
Anyone who imagines that those thoughts are not weighing heavily on the intellect and conscience of America’s military leadership is lost in a fool’s fog.
Will the day come when patriotic general and flag officers sit down with the president, or with those who control him, and work out the national equivalent of a “family intervention,” with some form of limited, shared responsibility?
Imagine a bloodless coup to restore and defend the Constitution through an interim administration that would do the serious business of governing and defending the nation. Skilled, military-trained, nation-builders would replace accountability-challenged, radical-left commissars. Having bonded with his twin teleprompters, the president would be detailed for ceremonial speech-making.
Military intervention is what Obama’s exponentially accelerating agenda for “fundamental change” toward a Marxist state is inviting upon America. A coup is not an ideal option, but Obama’s radical ideal is not acceptable or reversible.
Unthinkable? Then think up an alternative, non-violent solution to the Obama problem. Just don’t shrug and say, “We can always worry about that later.”
In the 2008 election, that was the wistful, self-indulgent, indifferent reliance on abnegation of personal responsibility that has sunk the nation into this morass.

Chris Hedges' Columns Someone You Love: Coming to a Gulag Near You

"The security and surveillance state does not deal in nuance or ambiguity. Its millions of agents, intelligence gatherers, spies, clandestine operatives, analysts and armed paramilitary units live in a binary world of opposites, of good and evil, black and white, opponent and ally. There is nothing between. You are for us or against us. You are a patriot or an enemy of freedom. You either embrace the crusade to physically eradicate evildoers from the face of the Earth or you are an Islamic terrorist, a collaborator or an unwitting tool of terrorists. And now that we have created this monster it will be difficult, perhaps impossible, to free ourselves from it. Our 16 national intelligence agencies and army of private contractors feed on paranoia, rumor, rampant careerism, demonization of critical free speech and often invented narratives. They justify their existence, and their consuming of vast governmental resources, by turning even the banal and the mundane into a potential threat. And by the time they finish, the nation will be a gulag."

CCRKBA to Bloomberg: 'Before You Disarm America, Disarm Your Bad Cops'

BELLEVUE, Wash., April 5, 2012 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- With the convictions of two former New York police officers, one a retired NYPD officer and the other an auxiliary sergeant, for drug offenses, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms today suggested that anti-gun Mayor Michael Bloomberg has his sights set on the wrong people to disarm.
"Instead of disarming law-abiding American citizens," said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb, "perhaps Mayor Bloomberg should keep guns out of the hands of some cops on his public payroll."
Former police officer Alfredo Rivera was carrying his department-issue 9mm pistol when he and then-Sgt. Rafael Jimenez agreed to move 10 kilograms - about 20 pounds - of cocaine to a buyer in the Bronx at a meeting in January 2010. Two months later, again armed with the same pistol, Rivera showed up at a Long Island warehouse picking up what appeared to be cocaine, and then transported it to the Bronx. Jimenez pulled a 127-month prison sentence and Rivera will be sentenced on May 18, according to an FBI press release.
"Bloomberg is running around the country, worrying about privately-owned firearms," Gottlieb observed, "while the city was issuing guns to dirty cops. The activities of Rivera and Jimenez are an insult to every honest and decent hard-working police officer in New York City. Bloomberg's national campaign against private gun ownership is an insult to every law-abiding gun owner in the country; people who wouldn't dream of running drugs like this pair of city-armed rogue cops.
"Mayor Bloomberg likes to hold all gun owners responsible for crimes committed by people with guns," he continued. "He routinely smears the reputations of reputable gun dealers because a few have, perhaps inadvertently, violated some gun regulation. By the same logic, he should be held responsible for crimes committed by sworn officers, including an auxiliary sergeant, who engage in criminal activity under the cover of their badges and guns.
"If Michael Bloomberg wants to attack criminal activity by armed outlaws," Gottlieb concluded, "we suggest he stick to his own turf and concentrate on his own people rather than citizens in other states. He's not their mayor, he's not their president and he's not their king. He's just become a big pain in their necks."
With more than 650,000 members and supporters nationwide, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms ( www.ccrkba.org ) is one of the nation's premier gun rights organizations. As a non-profit organization, the Citizens Committee is dedicated to preserving firearms freedoms through active lobbying of elected officials and facilitating grass-roots organization of gun rights activists in local communities throughout the United States.
