TheBrain :: Know More

TheBrain :: Know More:

Fascinating!

A Picture Is Worth a Thousand Folders.

Our own organic Brains aren't always linear. Our greatest ideas and insights are dependent on a cascade and convergence of many others. That's why TheBrain focuses on connecting information instead of separating it.
TheBrain moves beyond linear folders and lists, letting you create a network of information organized the way you think about it. You don't have to force any idea or project into a single folder. With TheBrain you can connect things to anything else.
TheBrain applies visualization to your information, creating a digital map similar to paper-based mind maps you may be familiar with, but so much more powerful...

No Limits Mind Mapping

There is no limit to the number of ideas or files you can add to your digital Brain. You can create a Brain with several thousand Thoughts easily and continue to grow it.
Strategy.jpg
Clicking on a Thought triggers all related information.
Now you can shift focus quickly and discover information that would otherwise be overlooked.

Forge New Territory with Dynamic Mind Mapping

Traditional mind mapping software helps people visualize their ideas. A typical mind map interface displays topics horizontally branching out from one unchanging root node.
However, these mind mapping programs make it difficult to connect ideas that are in distant branches and cannot represent large volumes of information. They are essentially a hierarchy just like your computer's folders.

With TheBrain's dynamic mind mapping capability there is no limit to the number of Thoughts and information that can be added.

TheBrain and Other Mind Mapping Programs

TheBrain can be used as a new mind mapping and brainstorming application when your current mind map runs out of space. You can import your mind map into TheBrain and keep growing it. You can also use TheBrain to store existing mind maps, interrelate them, and launch them from your Brain.

On survival...

A lot of people are saying that joker shooter plus Kevlar would not have been stopped by CC citizen. that's bullshit. If u have a gun in a crowded theater then you can unload on the gunmen. Kevlar helmet wont stop a 9mm at close range. Aim for the head. Also you are more likely to hit hands of the shooter which effectively takes him out of the action. People who don't think don't understand how to react under pressure. A gun is better than no gun and a survival mentality is *Always* better than giving up in a life or death situation. And believe that. If your rocking a glock you can unload on a mf if he is body armored up to the hilt. It doesn't matter. You are more likely to survive if you produce maximum resistance than if you are simply compliant, resigned,  etc.

I'm so pro-gun...

I'm so pro-gun I've gone beyond the gun and seen into the next gun so I guess that's my view of things.

But in deference to the kind words I've heard here I will state this.

I agree with the current level of restrictions. I think the laws (of most state's) are good and need to stay the way they are regarding revisiting the AWB. I could also see national policy implemented so that all gun-sale purchases had to be recorded and filed with the FBI and ATF.

I think we have the right amount of laws, and Illinois needs to allow carry, as does NY, and San Fran. Other than that I think it's a state's rights issue. I think we have really the best laws, and if we amend them it shouldn't be in regards to the actual substance (of a gun). We already ban rocket launchers and mortars and machine guns, so that feels right.

You've voluntariy disarmed yourself literally and morally. You have no defense left when they institute an even stricter set of control and then finally seize all guns. Same goes for most all government laws. You give in a little, then the take the rest next time. How do you think they instituted the income tax and social security? Only after they were well established did they raise them. At first, the rates were very low and didn't apply to most people. Later they raised them to apply to everybody.

‘Seinfeld’ Star Jumps Into Assault Weapon Debate

Jason Alexander of “Seinfeld” fame has weighed in on the conversation surrounding gun control laws in light of the shooting in Aurora, Colo., last Friday. The debate over gun control has flared up following the tragic Aurora theater shooting on July 20, in which suspect James Holmes allegedly killed 12 and injured 58 when he opened fire on a crowded movie theater with several weapons, including an assault rifle.
Alexander released a long “tweet’ using TwitLonger, which allows users far more than the allotted 140 characters, to share his thoughts on gun control following the massacre. His treatise in the world of Twitter has divided users, some backing his argument and some launching into attacks on the actor, one user calling him “dumber than George Constanza,” his famously dense “Seinfeld” character.
On July 21, Alexander, an actor and outspoken liberal, tweeted the following:
@IJasonAlexander:I cannot understand support for legality of the kind of weapon in this massacre. It’s a military weapon.why should it be in non- mil hands?
The initial tweet received an flurry of responses, leading Alexander on Sunday to expand on his views via TwitLonger. In an extensive argument, Alexanderlashed out at gun activists who claim that gun regulation violates their Second Amendment rights.
Want a different take on politics? Check out OTUS on Facebook and follow us on Twitter @OTUSNews.
Alexander argued that the Second Amendment lays out the right to bear arms for those in regulated militias alone, not for private citizens, writing, “The advocates of guns who claim patriotism and the rights of the 2nd Amendment – are they in well-regulated militias? For the vast majority – the answer is no.”
The actor warned of what he calls “absolutists,” a term which he uses to describe “ideologues from both sides, but mostly from the far right who swear allegiance to unelected officials … that are to obstruct every possible act of governance, even the ones they support or initiate. Whose political and social goal is to marginalize the other side, vilify and isolate them with the hope that they will surrender, go away or die out.”
Alexander goes on to equate these absolutists with terrorists, as they believe “they hold the only truth, everyone else is dangerous. Ever meet a terrorist that doesn’t believe that? Just asking.”
He finishes by saying that there is “no excuse” for the lack of regulation surrounding assault rifles, and that while stricter laws “will not prevent any tragedy,” that “we certainly have done ourselves no good by allowing these particular weapons to be acquired freely by just about anyone.”
Alexander’s response to the Colorado tragedy is the most recent in a line of arguments surrounding the issue of gun control. Some politicians, such asPennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell, have slammed the legislature for not doing more on firearms control prior to the tragedy, while others say now is not the time to press the issue, as the outcry has come from politicos, not citizens themselves.
Regardless of the debate, it seems unlikely that gun control reform will come to the forefront over the next few months, as the White House recentlyindicated a reluctance to revise existing regulations.

Ever meet a terrorist that doesn’t believe that? Just asking.”

Remote Access via Power Strip DARPA

Darpa Funds Hack Machine You’d Never Notice

PwnieExpress’ all-new Power Pwn. All Images: PwnieExpress
If you saw this bad boy under your desk, would you say anything?
It may look like a surge protector, but it’s really a remote access machine that corporations can use to test security and log into branch offices. Called the Power Pwn, it’s a stealthier version of the little box that can hack your network we wrote about last March.
Hidden inside are Bluetooth and Wi-Fi adapters, along with a number of hacking and remote access tools that let security experts prod and poke the network, and even call home to be remotely controlled via the cellular network.
There’s a “text-to-bash” feature that lets you send commands to the device using SMS messages. Some customers conducting penetration tests of corporate security have been using Apple’s Siri voice-recognition software to send these messages, says Dave Porcello, the CEO of Pwnie Express, the company that makes the Power Pwn. “Basically, they are able to speak pen-testing commands into their phone.”
It’s a device “you can just plug in and do a full-scale penetration test from start to finish,” Porcello says. “The enterprise can use stuff like this to do testing more often and more cheaply than they’re doing it right now.”
Using the Power Pwn via SMS
Companies can buy the $1,295 Power Pwn and mail it out to branch offices to do quick security tests of their remote networks, Porcello says. About 90 percent of Pwnie Express’ customers work for corporations or the federal government.
The device, like its Pwn Plug predecessor, comes with easy-to-use scripts that cause it to boot up and then phone home for instructions. “It’s pretty sturdy. You can send it through U.S. mail and you can send it through FedEx and the setup is easy,” says Jason Malley, who works in alarm-system maker Tyco’s security and compliance group. “This tool really cuts down on time and expenses.”
Malley wasn’t allowed to talk about what Tyco is doing with the devices — he’s been using them for more than a year — but he says that they go over really well when he pulls them out in informal “lunch and learn” demonstration sessions. “It’s actually a really great security awareness tool,” he says, “because we can talk about things in theory. When you pull the thing out and say it’s not theory, it definitely helps and you notice things.”
This Power Pwn was developed with money from a new Darpa (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) program called Cyber Fast Track, which is trying to jumpstart a new generation of cyber-defense tools. “It’s kind of taking the tools that the hackers are using and putting them in the hands of the people that need to defend against the hackers,” Porcello says.

Tropicamide (Mydriacyl) is an anticholinergic used as a mydriatic.[1]

[edit]Uses

Tropicamide is an antimuscarinic drug that produces short acting mydriasis(dilation of the pupil) and cycloplegia[2] when applied as eye drops. It is used to allow better examination of the lensvitreous humor, and retina. Due to its relatively short duration of effect (4–8 hours), it is typically used during eye examinations such as the dilated fundus examination, but it may also be used before or after eye surgery. Cycloplegic drops are often also used to treat anterioruveitis, decreasing risk of posterior synechiae and decreasing inflammation in the anterior chamber of the eye.
Right eye was instilled with tropicamide, leading to mydriasis and therefore anisocoria (unequal pupil size)
Anisocoria caused by Tropicamide instilled into the right eye only.
Tropicamide is occasionally administered in combination with p-hydroxyamphetamine (brand nameParemyd), which is a sympathomimetic. The use of the sympathomimetic drug causes the iris dilator muscle to be directly stimulated, causing increased dilation. In the United States, the sympathomimetic drop most commonly used along with Tropicamide, is 2.5% Phenylephrine Hydrochloride (brand name AK-Dilate).

[edit]Side effects

Tropicamide induces transient stinging and a slight and transient rise in intraocular pressure in the majority of patients. It may cause redness or conjunctivitis(inflammation) and also blurs vision for a short while after instillation (care must be taken, and the patient must only drive when vision returns to normal). Tropicamide may, in very rare cases [1], cause an attack of acute angle-closure glaucoma. This tends to be in patients with narrow anterior chamber angles, and closure risk must be assessed by the practitioner prior to instillation.
Tropicamide is often preferred to atropine because atropine has a longer half-life, causing prolonged dilation and blurry vision for up to a week. Atropine has less sting effect, but can be toxic or fatal if ingested in large quantities by children or adults.
Systemic side effects are very rare.

[edit]Illicit Use

In Russia, it is used to some degree as an inexpensive recreational drug. Like other anticholinergics, when taken recreationally, tropicamide acts as a deliriant. According to one reporter, when injected intravenously, as is most often the case, the drug often "brings on suicidal feelings." [3]
